Nemesis Crown Help

How do I figure out who's winning?

That's a good question. As you know, The Nemesis Crown Campaign is set to run over 6 weeks between June and August of 2007. The winners will be determined by how each army does during each week. At the end, we'll use the results of those weeks to see which armies have reached their goals.

How are the standings and scores calculated?

Each battle in which you take part earns your army points when you report it on this campaign web site. The better you do in your battles, the more points your side will accumulate.

Power Rating

The winners of the campaign will be determined by each Army's performance during each week over the course of the campaign.

The weekly results are based on Power Ratings. A Power Rating is an average of the number of points an Army has earned per battle during a certain amount of time. So, an army's Weekly Power Rating is determined by the following formula:

Power Rating = Total number of campaign points earned by an army in a region for the week
Total number of games that faction has played in that region for the week

On the day the that gaming week ends, we determine every army's Power Rating.

Here is a short example:

For each Army in each Region, we determine its Power Ratings for the week. We'll use Week 2 as an example. (We'll just use a couple of regions and armies to show how the system works.)

Week X Raw Power Ratings

These are the raw Power Ratings for hypothetical Week "X." You'll see why they aren't the final ratings in just a moment.

Raw Rankings The Draken Downs The Howling Heights The Barren Hills The Reik's Marches
Beasts of Chaos 8 6.9 6.5 7.7
Bretonnians 8.3 3.2 9.1 8.7
Dwarfs 9.1 8.3 8.4 8
Dark Elves 9.3 7.3 6.4 9.2

Now, in each Region, we add the Special Event results for each army that has won a special event! The bonus for an Army winning a special event is +1 to their Power Rating in the region where they won for that week.

Week X Special Event Results!

Special Events The Draken Downs The Howling Heights The Barren Hills The Reik's Marches
Beasts of Chaos       +1
Bretonnians
Dwarfs   +1
Dark Elves +1   +1

From the chart above, the Dark Elves won 2 Special Events during the week, while the Beasts of Chaos and the Dwarfs won one each. The Bretonnians had a poor showing and didn't win a single one.

Week X Final Power Ratings

All that is left for us to determine the final Power Ratings is to add them together.

Final Ranking The Draken Downs The Howling Heights The Barren Hills The Reik's Marches
Beasts of Chaos 8 6.9 6.5 8.7
Bretonnians 8.3 3.2 9.1 8.7
Dwarfs 9.1 9.3 8.4 8
Dark Elves 10.3 7.3 7.4 9.2

Because of the Special Events, the Beasts of Chaos went from having the lowest score in The Reik's Marches to having the second-best score (tying with the Bretonnians). You can see how important Special Events can be for your army during the campaign!

Now that we have the final Power Ratings, we order them in each region from highest to lowest based on their rankings. This lets us know who is in first place, second place, third place, and so on.

Week X Placements

Placements The Draken Downs The Howling Heights The Barren Hills The Reik's Marches
Beasts of Chaos 4th 3rd 4th 2nd
Bretonnians 3rd 4th 1st 2nd
Dwarfs 2nd 1st 2nd 4th
Dark Elves 1st 2nd 3rd 1st

In the Howling Heights, for example, Dwarfs are in first, while the Bretonnians are in fourth.

We know now how every army did in each region, which is great. The next step is to figure out how the armies are doing overall.

To determine the overall placement for the week, we assign each faction "place" points. For this example, we will say that first gets 4 points, second gets 3 points, third gets 2 points, and fourth gets 1 point. In the campaign, points will go from 14 points to 1 point because there will be 14 armies as opposed to our little example where we only have four.

Week X Placement Points Earned

Points Standing The Draken Downs The Howling Heights The Barren Hills The Reik's Marches
Beasts of Chaos 1 2 1 3
Bretonnians 2 1 4 3
Dwarfs 3 4 3 1
Dark Elves 4 3 2 4

From the above, the Bretonnians get 2 points for their third-place finish in The Draken Downs, 1 point for their fourth-place finish in The Howling Heights, and so on.

The only thing to do at this point is add up these points and assign the armies their overall places based on who has the most points.

Week X Final Standings

Points Standing Total Points Final Place
Beasts of Chaos 7 4th
Bretonnians 10 3rd
Dwarfs 11 2nd
Dark Elves 13 1st

After everything is said and done, the Dark Elves came in first for week X. Hurray for Dark Elves!

At this point, we have determined the Overall scores for the week.

To determine the Overall score during the campaign, in the following weeks, we use the same method as we did before.

First we get all the places for each faction for each week. To show you how this works, here are some made-up results for four weeks worth of games.

Overall Places Week1 Week2 Week3 Week4 Week5 Week6
Beasts of Chaos 3rd 4th 1st 2nd
Bretonnians 4th 3rd 4th 2nd
Dwarfs 1st 2nd 2nd 4th
Dark Elves 2nd 1st 2nd 1st

Next, we assign each "place" a points value like we did before with the scores for the week.

Numerical Score Week1 Week2 Week3 Week4 Week5 Week6 Total
Beasts of Chaos 2 1 4 3     10
Bretonnians 1 2 1 3     7
Dwarfs 4 3 3 1     11
Dark Elves 3 4 3 4     14

Finally, we determine the current overall leader:

Overall Places Total Overall Place
Beasts of Chaos 10 3rd
Bretonnians 7 4th
Dwarfs 11 2nd
Dark Elves 14 1st

In our example, the Dark Elves are in first place with 2 more weeks to go in the campaign, with the Dwarfs hot on their heels.

Important things to remember:

  • Every game counts, so play as many games as you can.
  • More than one army can win by achieving their goals.
  • Winning Special Events can really affect a week's results, so make sure your army is represented at as many events as you can attend.
  • Most of all: have lots of fun!

Where do I find the results?

Each week, you can find the current results on your army's update page, which you can find in the Campaign Section of this web site. It will have that week's results for your region and the overall scores for that week. It will also have a section that tells you how your army is doing in the overall campaign, not just in your region. Be sure to check your army page on Wednesdays during the Nemesis Crown campaign. Good Luck!
