Nemesis Crown Help

What is the "Nemesis Rating?"

The Nemesis Rating represents how well you are doing in the campaign, based on the games you have played.

How is it calculated?

The Nemesis Rating uses a variation of the Élõ Rating system, originally developed to rank chess players. In this system, your rating is based upon the results of every game you have played against other ranked players. After each reported game, you will earn or lose points depending on the result and how good your opponent is.

If your opponent has a higher rating than you, losing to them will have a much smaller impact on your rating than losing to somebody with a similar rating. Conversely, beating them will earn you a greater boost to your rating. In extreme cases, where your opponent's rating is much higher than yours, you have nothing to lose by playing against them, and could even earn a giant-slaying bonus for managing a win!

The default rating for new players is 1,500.

The main differences between the Nemesis Rating and the system used for chess are:

  • Each game played in the Nemesis Crown campaign is considered more important than would be a game of chess. This is to compensate for the short timescale of the campaign and the number of games you can reasonably play during it.
  • In chess, you can only win, lose, or reach a stalemate. The Nemesis Rating system accounts for all the possible results from a game of Warhammer, including Massacres, Solid Victories, and so on.

What does this mean?

If you want to make your way to the top of the leaderboard, you won't get there by only playing games that you're sure you'll win or by defeating the same guy over and over again. You'll need to find worthy opposition to prove you're number one.

Simply put: pick on someone your own size!

How will I know what effect a game will have on my rating?

When you view another player's Wartime Achievements pages, at the top of the page, you will find a comparison of their record and yours. This comparison will tell you what your new Nemesis Rating will be if you Massacre this player.

My Nemesis Rating changed, but I haven't played another game! What's going on?

Everyone's Nemesis Rating is dependent on the ratings of their opponents. By default, we assume every game happened exactly as reported.

However, occasionally people make mistakes and report games incorrectly or with errors. Every night, all the disputed games are removed from the record and we recalculate everyone's Nemesis Rating as if those disputed games never happened. Even if you weren't involved in a disputed game, your Nemesis Rating could be affected because you played somebody else who was. It doesn't mean you've done anything wrong, just that you've maybe played somebody who wasn't accurate in their reporting.

What about unregistered players?

Games reported against players who aren't registered on our system will count towards your faction's score on the map just like other games, and will show up on your W/L/D record. However, these games will have no effect on your Nemesis Rating. Since we don't know how good your opponent was, we can't work out how much your result is worth.

"I've got my eye on you!"

The Nemesis Rating system already does much to negate the impact of people cheating — their rating won't go up much after the first few times they report Massacres against an account that only ever loses.

However, like every global campaign, we'll also be on the lookout for suspicious accounts. After years of Games Workshop campaigns, we have a good idea of what unscrupulous behaviour looks like, and our system is designed to help us identify players who may be cheating.

These accounts will be marked on the leaderboard with the "I've got my eye on you!" icon. It doesn't necessarily mean that they are cheating, but that such unnatural good fortune strongly suggests that they've been consorting with forbidden powers, and our Witch Hunters will be despatched to put them to the question. If you have been cheating, you would be well-advised to present a reformed character by the time they get to you!

No account will ever be disabled based solely on automatic systems. Suspicious accounts will be checked by their region's local coordinator, and if they check out okay, they will be unmarked. Woe betide any who fail the test!
