On 14th July Games Workshop stores all across the country held special themed games of Warhammer set on the night of Witches; Hexensnacht! This night of dark omen and the waxing of the winds of dark magic which provokes the creatures of darkness to rage and frenzy of violence comes but once a year. This year Hexensnacht fell as the armies of the Old world gathered in the Great Forest in their quest for the fabled Nemesis Crown. Defenceless villages and towns were attacked, armies on the march ambushed and daring raids mounted to prevent dark rites being celebrated amongst hoary standing stones of ancient power. All of those who took part will have tall tales of great victories, and crushing defeats, heroic sacrifice and deeds to chill the soul. New legends were made and others brought low. In Poole the brave forces of the Dwarfs and Empire fighting off a night attack of Orcs and Goblins found themselves beset on all sides by undead summoned by witches using the dark power of Hexensnacht. Against all the odds the forces of darkness were thrown back and the dawn rose on a field littered with the greenskin dead and those who should have remained in the earth! In Thurrock an expedition by Dwarfish and Imperial troops broke into a circle of arcane ruins just as foul, writhing cultists summoned a horde of Chaos Daemons into the world. After terrible losses the forces of good emerged, battered but victorious. In Worcester a series of great battles were fought over items of great power as the tides of magic wreaked havoc, gusting and becoming still across the fields of battle. One Goblin Shaman found himself suddenly possessed of terrifying magical might yet even as he gathered the energy to unleash a devastating blast upon the enemy, caught a surge of raw magical power and exploded spectacularly, destroying the unit in which he was cowering! (He went straight from level 2 to 5, rolling 4 sixes in a row then 2 more for a devastating miscast!) This is just a selection of the action from around the country so i f you missed the night of terror then just pop down to your local Games Workshop store to find out what stories they might tell of Hexensnacht and what other fantastic battles and activities they have planned for the rest of the summer. |
