Week 3 Report

The war for the Nemesis Crown now engulfs the entire region. Glittering hosts and scrofulous hordes converge on the Great Forest , each intent upon nothing less than the destruction of their foes, and claiming the crown itself.

Most glorious of all the armies are the forces dispatched from Bretonnia to rid the lands of the Empire of the evil creatures swarming over it. The Bretonnians have fought a war on two fronts, also launching a devastating crusade against the Tomb Kings to the south, which rages there still. The most senior knights of that crusade now fly north upon their winged mounts, following rumours that the agents of Settra may be abroad to the north of the Grey Mountains .

The forces of the Empire are hard pressed to hold at bay the sheer numbers of foes intruding upon their lands. The Knightly Orders have established dominance of the roadways, and are aggressively patrolling these whilst clearing the forests back from the roads and building fortifications at key points. However, the knights are ill-suited to defending the many small settlements scattered across the Great Forest , as evinced when a Dark Elf raid abducted an entire generation from the town of Eggonsdorf whilst the militia slept and the knights patrolled the highways.

From the Middle Mountains has been heard a fearful roaring. The sound, it is said, is that of Grimgor Ironhide raging against a cruel fate that condemns him to be mocked by his foes. None will face the Ironhide – not for fear of him, but because they dismiss him as the least amongst so many dire threats. To Grimgor, there is no greater an insult than to be ignored by an enemy. Word has reached the generals of many other armies that Grimgor has descended from his lair in the mountains, and now marches at the head of a mighty column. As he marches, Grimgor is said to bellow orders to any and all Greenskins swept up in his path. To the spies of the other races these orders make little sense – burn everything, he yells to one messenger, build idols to Mork, he shouts at another. Tell those evil big-hat-stunty-gitz to bring more burny stuff, he orders yet another unfortunate underling. Get me the Vile Fangs and the Dul'Fangs, they won't let me down when all you wimps is running away! Whatever Grimgor's plans, he clearly intends that none should ignore him any longer, and the best way to achieve that is surely to gain the Nemesis Crown.

The war has spread from those regions initially engulfed, with every part of the Great Forest now witness to the full fury of clashing hosts.

In the Draken Downs, the armies of the Vampire Counts have swept all before them, raising a vast horde of skeletal warriors found buried in ancient barrows across the low rolling hills. Just what foul mission Waldikir will embark this host upon remains to be seen, and only a small force of High Elves stands before him in defence of the region. Instrumental amongst Waldikir's captains has been the Vampire called simply ‘the Ruiner', an individual who Waldikir values as much as he distrusts.

The Drakwald Deeps are, for the moment at least, defended against the forces of darkness by the combined forces of light. Dwarfs stand side by side with High Elves defending the region, while the Wood Elves launch devastating ambushes upon any who stray too close to the tree line.

In the Reik's Marches , the Dwarfs dominate also, where the leadership of Thane Ironbrow Stonebeard has proved instrumental against the vile Undead hordes newly risen from the fetid marshes. The High Elves have suffered a series of crushing defeats in their efforts to contain the sodden, shambling corpses, leading some generals to question why they should endure such losses, and where the Men of the Empire are when their towns are under such sustained assault. The greatest of battles fought in the region was that in which many hundreds of wizards gathered to do battle at Albrecht's Tower, drawn by the howling winds of magic that converged around the tower's summit. All day the wizards of a dozen races blasted one another while normal men could only cringe in awe. By the day's end, uncounted practitioners of the sorcerous arts lay dead or were blasted to ashes. The tower was ransacked by foul Greenskins, its magical treasures carried off to be used against the forces of light at some future date.

Upon the shrill winds of the Howling Heights is to be heard the proud war cries of the Knights of Bretonnia, led by Sir Gildes of Bastonne, aided by the flamboyant Adrian de Faycelle. Having defeated his foes to the south they now range far and wide in search of the agents of Settra. The knights follow tales of dread tomb creatures stalking the land, and have vowed to pursue them wherever they may walk.

To the south of the Howling Heights , Rauberthal is also being held against the forces of evil by the efforts of the Bretonnians under the proud Sir Phidias de Carcassonne. Here, it is the scattered warbands of Chaos who have been ridden down mercilessly by the proud Sons of Bretonnia, aided by silvered columns of High Elven cavalry. Where the cavalry of the Bretonnians cannot ride, the Dwarfs have taken up the fight, taking up the defence of the town of Trenkenkragg in the fight against evil.

At the Great Confluence of the Drelb and Talabec, the Dwarfs have erected yet more of their fortifications, building on the victories of the previous days to consolidate their positions. High Elven forces have aided the combined throngs of Magnus Bronzebeard, Lord Joseph Grozbouil and Runelord Thunderfist in this, inflicting a series of bitter defeats upon their enemies, most notably the Greenskins.

The Talabec Borders are also held by the efforts of the Dwarfs, where Gunther Stonebrow carves a name for himself in the annals of his hold. A great many tales are whispered however of battles fought against the creatures of the barrows, raised by moonlight to do battle by ancient priests swathed in parchment-dry swaddling. Here the men of the Empire are hardest pressed, for there are precious few roads along which the knightly orders might patrol, and the vast tracts of woodland are nigh impenetrable to but the lightest of armies.

The Barren Hills have witnessed much bloodshed and woe as the search for the Nemesis Crown has escalated. The ruins of the Elven city of Tor Thana have seen much bitter conflict, notably between factions of the High Elves and the Dark Elves. It appears to outsiders that Giladis, the commander of the High Elves force is playing a highly dangerous game of politics in seeking to establish a power base at the heart of the Empire, when the High Elves are present in the region to aid their long time allies in the Empire.

The leaders of the Dark Elves assaulting Tor Thana have recently received a fell warning, delivered unto them by a single assassin who appeared in their midst as they gathered in council. These leaders, the messenger stated, stood accused of hubris, of putting their own desires above the aims of their lord, Malekith. Ignore the Witch King's orders again, the assassin whispered, and they would find themselves enslaved alongside the population of Eggonsdorf, whose lives had been offered up to Khaine for the glory of Naggaroth, according to the orders issued when first the Dark Elf fleets set sail for the Old World.

Greatest of the defenders of the Barren Hills are Barren Rivendare, who has claimed a great many victories along with his vassals Arturius and Hugo of Lyonesse.

The Dwarfs too are present in great numbers, and Thorgrim has ordered the many fortifications built along the Old Dwarf Road extended. Work appears to have begun in the vicinity of the Giant's Tump, though no reports as to just what is being built there are yet forthcoming.

Despite their travails elsewhere, the armies of the Empire have been more successful to the east than they have elsewhere in their realm. Many Empire armies have flooded to the Barren Hills and the Taalford Lowlands, following the example of the Helstrom 4 th and many others in a valiant effort to stem the tide of invaders. The Emperor rages against the foe, and has recently been seen leading small expeditions of his closest warriors in search of the Nemesis Crown. His council worries, believing the Emperor gripped by his desire for the crown, and the faction that would see the crown destroyed now gains ascendancy in the court. Yet, a number of this faction, each a highly ranked officer of the Church of Sigmar have been murdered in the night, causing suspicion and mistrust to seize the highest echelons of the Emperor's armies.

Far to the south of the Great Forest , the war spreads further as the Tomb Kings attempt to break through the forces of Bretonnia. And all the while, the Lizardmen launch their attacks against the other races, manipulating the strands of fate so that the plans of the Old Ones might be furthered. Those plans, the Mage Priests know, make no mention of the Nemesis Crown. The Lizardmen continue to exert their unseen influence upon the war raging in the Great Forest , their hand entirely unseen by those who seek the power of the Nemesis Crown.

Even as the war intensifies, the attentions of many commanders are focused not on strategy and tactics, but on the search for the crown itself. Whilst vast armies clash, smaller bands of elite warriors scour the Great Forest . Spies and assassins range far and wide, their gaze sometimes reaching into the very council chambers of their foes. It is only a matter of time, these spies report back, before one faction or another discovers the crown's hiding place. And then, the war for the Nemesis Crown shall truly begin...

What Does That Mean? The following color codes are meant to provide you with a barometer of how well your faction is progressing towards its stated goal for the Nemesis Crown. These color codes are here to give you a sense of your progress to date.

Image of a green button. Green. Your faction is doing well, and if things continue, you are bound to secure your objectives while others stumble and clash in the depths of the forest.
Image of a yellow button. Yellow. The fight is far from over, and the outcome isn't certain, though victory is definitely within your grasp. To assure you achieve your faction's goal, you'll need to put forth greater effort.
Image of a red button. Red. Things are not looking well at all, and fate seems to have forsaken you. Despite your best efforts, nothing seems to be going according to plan. Victory may still be possible, as the winds of war are often fickle. In order to succeed, you'll need to re-double your efforts!

The Big Picture. It is important to remember that for this campaign, there will be no single winner. Each faction is working towards its goal, and battles will determine whether or not they are able to achieve it.
