Week 2 Report
he war for the Nemesis Crown escalates into a full-blown battle for domination of the Great Forest , with a myriad of bitter enemies fighting one another beneath the dark eaves. Where previously small warbands scouted the woodlands, now larger forces converge, their goal to expel all others so that they, and they alone, may gain possession of the Nemesis Crown.
The fighting has been greatest to the east, the Talabec Borders and the Barren Hills erupting in war as Greenskin tribes migrate westwards in an effort to carry out Grimgor's orders. Many of these tribes have been halted by the stalwart Dwarfs that guard the Old Dwarf Road , but many more have bypassed Thorgrim's fortifications and even now flock to the Ironhide's banner.
In the Draken Downs, the Dwarfs have established yet more fortifications, against which a tide of beasts from the dark woods has broken. The stoic warriors have held against all attacks, taking a fearsome toll on the Beastmen.
In the Drakwald Forest events are far harder to read, with all manner of grim and far-fetched tales coming out of that region. Some speak of Skaven bands emerging from the tree line to slaughter entire columns of troops, others tell of ghostly, bone clad vessels passing along the River Delb by night. All who attempt to investigate have disappeared silently in the darkness.
The Reik's Marches are dominated by the Wood Elves of Athel Lauren, who now claim the deep woods as their own. Few now dare to travel under anything other than clear sky, for fear of Wood Elf Way Watchers leaping from the boughs of the twisted trees to slaughter any who oppose them.
In the Howling Heights , many great victories have been won thanks to the knights of Bretonnia, who, cooperating with High Elf bands, have saved the armies of the Empire in the region from certain defeat at the hands of the shambling hordes of the Vampire Counts.
In the Rauberthal, Wood Elf Kindreds passing from the Reik's Marches have established dominance of the region's forest, launching vengeful attacks against the Beastmen lurking in the dark, and even driving them out into the hills where the children of Morghur have been ridden down by glittering hosts of High Elven and Bretonnian cavalry.
To the south, in the Great Confluence, the Dwarfs dominate, though they have yet to establish the formidable fortifications they have elsewhere. The Dwarfs have fought a number of pitched battles against the Beastmen, but have yet to establish a presence in the woods proper.
In the Talabec Borders the Wood Elves have found themselves under attack by small, roving bands of their dark kin, the Druchii. It appears these bands have infiltrated by night along the dark forests, and a series of running battles has been fought between Shades and Way Watchers, the hatred and bitterness of old rekindled once more.
In the Barren Hills, more retinues of Bretonnian knights have leant their aid to the forces of light, and it is fortunate indeed that they have, for otherwise roaming bands of Chaos Marauders would have exacted a bloody toll on the Empire's hard pressed militias.
Those marauders attacking to the south in the Taalford Lowlands have met with success over recent days, with a series of massacres inflicted against High Elf bands dispatched to reinforce the region. Even as the Elves of Ulthuan dispatch more forces, the lowlands echo to the blasphemous celebrations of the victorious servants of Chaos.
Wood Elves
he Asrai have risen as one to defend the Great Forest against the darkness threatening to overwhelm it from every quarter. The Kindreds of Athel Loren have marched north to expel any who would corrupt the woodlands as once Morghur had attempted to do to their own woodland home. It was Naith the Prophetess who first saw the hand of Morghur, who the Wood Elves call the Corruptor, at work to the north, and who called upon her kin to turn every effort to defeating this vile creature.
And it is well she did so, for the kindreds came upon the places trodden by Morghur's herds, and wept to see the vile contagion infesting the once fair glades. Naith dispatched a messenger to address the Emperor, to impress upon him that he should not fight against her people. Though the messenger reported back that Karl Franz appeared gripped by his desire to bear the Nemesis Crown, the Emperor's forces would work to the same aim as the Wood Elves. Soon, the woods rang to the fearful braying of Beastmen beset by the armies of Men and the magics of the Wood Elves. The corruption that threatened to engulf the forest, and perhaps to spread southwards towards Athel Lauren, was contained, for now at least.
With the Beastmen contained by Naith's magic, the Wood Elves turned their attentions to the Greenskins. The Empire held the roadways, meaning a great many Orc and Goblin warbands were forced to venture ever deeper into the woods to pass through the land. Here the Greenskins were set upon and slaughtered by the vengeful Asrai. Even as the Orcs attempted to enact Grimgor's orders to torch the woodlands, Naith's Spellweavers called forth a great downpour that extinguished the fires and ruined their ill-conceived plans.
The Wood Elves do not confine their attentions to the Beastmen and the Greenskins however. Any who would do harm to the woodlands are fair game. Already, the cautionary tale of Selenistra Sarathai and the Host of Autumn's Twilight is being told, in which an Ogre tribe slaughtered an entire herd of stags, only to find themselves ambushed at the height of their feast by Sarathai's kindred. Few were the survivors of that battle, though enough to spread word of it far and wide.
