Week 5 Report

The Great Forest resounds to the sound of the Dwarfs marching to war. War chants echo from the hills, and the sound of axes hewing greenskin flesh haunts the deepest glades. King Thorgrim Grudgebearer has ordered all of the throngs of his army to make one last, final push to track down the Nemesis Crown, for he feels the eyes of many generations of ancestors upon him. The fortifications erected along the Old Dwarf Road and at the Giant's Tump have been nigh stripped of defenders, that every available Dwarf warrior might scour the forest for the Nemesis Crown.

Leading the search are the rangers, marshalled by Joseph Bugman. The rivers of the Great Forest are streaked with the blood of Greenskins, for Bugman's scouts have reported that a Night Goblin thief is at large, thought to have born the crown, and they are ruthlessly slaughtering any such creatures they encounter. Bugman believes it likely that a succession of greenskins may have born the crown, each having come under its sway before murdering its compatriots and stealing off into the woods. Bugman's scouts have found numerous Goblin bodies in the forest, many appearing to have been slain in internecine and maddened bloodlust.

Thorgrim's orders to Bugman and his followers are simple. Track down and slay every vile greenskin in the forest. Search every last body. Bring him the crown.

The warriors of the Empire have found themselves hard pressed over recent days, though now word has spread that the Emperor is with them once more. Having retreated into the woodland depths with Luthor Huss, there to meditate upon the hunt for the Nemesis Crown, Karl Franz has returned, certain in the knowledge that the Crown is an artifact of evil that must be destroyed at all costs. In a rousing speech delivered to ten thousand loyal soldiers, the Emperor described how his mind was made up while deep in prayer beside Huss. Disturbed in their meditations, the Emperor had looked up to see evil glowing eyes regarding him for the dark tree line surrounding the clearing in which the two men knelt. Perceiving attack, the Emperor rose, and before the poised assassin could react, struck the vile creature down with Ghal Maraz. The assassin's body crumpled to the ground, and was revealed to be that of a Skaven. In the creature's hand was a vile-glowing weapon of blasphemous manufacture Looking into the sickly glow, Karl Franz received the revelation, as if from Sigmar himself, that the Nemesis Crown was made of similar stuff, and must not be worn lest calamity befall the Empire. The Emperor now leads his armies in person once more, his warriors fired by his resolve to not only find the Nemesis Crown, but to destroy it, and any who would use its powers to harm the Empire of Man.

The greenskinned hordes of Grimgor Ironhide now swarm through every inch of the Great Forest , though they have paid a terrible price in blood for intruding upon areas controlled by the Wood Elves and others. Grimgor's ambitions continue to be thwarted at almost every turn, though his war chiefs have over recent days reported that the Night Goblin thought to be in possession of the crown has been found. Or rather, what remains of it has been found, scattered across a clearing spattered with the blood of at least a score of other Greenskins. That the crown drove the Goblin mad appears obvious, though who has it now none can say. Grimgor has dispatched his fastest Spider Riders in pursuit of who or what ever may now hold the crown, and he himself follows close behind, even as the forces of the Dwarfs close in on him.

All across the Great Forest , armies clash in what many believe to be the final battles of the war for the Nemesis Crown. Deep in his heart, every warrior feels the evil of the Crown, and is resolved to find it, or destroy it for all time. The moment draws near when the matter will be decided, under the dark boughs of the Great Forest or upon the windswept hills that overlook it.

In the Draken Downs, the Ogre tribes have banded together, some breaking the terms of contracts under which they served as mercenaries to other armies. Following the great feast held days before, the Ogres are now set upon the pursuit of plunder to prove themselves true sons of the Great Maw. While some tribes still fight alongside allies and employers (notably the Dwarfs), many now rampage across the lands in an orgy of riotous looting and bloodshed. Surely, there can be no better token of a Bull's devotion!

To the south of the Downs , where the forest grows dark and thick, the Dwarfs have been engaged in bitter conflict with the Greenskins, while their High Elf allies have made bloody ruin of the scattered bands of Beastmen still clinging to their homelands. Having stripped their fortified positions of defenders in the search for the crown, the Dwarfs have found their strongholds sorely pressed by Grimgor's armies, who have launched a series of lightning raids from entirely unexpected quarters. Though the ever stoic Dwarfs have held against overwhelming odds, it remains to be seen how long the massively outnumbered defenders can hold out with so many of their kin scouring the woods for the crown.

The Dwarfs have held too in the Reik's Marches , aiding the warriors of the Empire's Helstrom 4 th against the seemingly endless tide of Undead abominations emerging from the Midden Moors, and the Greenskins infesting the entire forest. The Bretonnians have suffered a great many losses in this accursed region, their mighty warhorses unable to negotiate the often boggy ground. Many a proud knight has been seen to sink beneath the stinking mire to his death, only for his risen carcass to be seen riding amongst the hordes of Undead. For the Knights of Bretonnia, such a fate is a terrible dishonour far worse than death itself, and many have vowed to right this evil wrong.

Though they have suffered at the Reik's Marches , in other regions more suited to them, the Bretonnians continue to dominate. Following the instructions of the Fey Enchantresses, the knights have launched a full scale assault against the forces of darkness, and put aside their desire for glory and land. As a result, the forces of undeath have been trampled beneath the hooves of charging war horses across the Howling Heights , the Rauberthal and the Barren Hills. Many a lonely wizards tower has come under attack by undead agents travelled far from the south, yet now these forces are scattered far and wide, broken and pursued across the hills and dales by vengeful knights fuelled by their devotion to the Lady and her prophetesses.

The High Elves have made use of the waterways of the Great Confluence region to bring parties of Lothern Sea Guard far inland, their stately vessels negotiating the wide rivers with the skill only Elven navigators possess. The forces of Ulthuan seek to prevent the armies of evil entering the Great Forest , and so Teclis, Caradryan and Korhil use the waterways to great effect in deploying their forces in response to enemy movements. And where the High Elves do not tread, there go the resplendent Knights of Bretonnia, intent upon the destruction of the evil creatures of the forest.

In the Talabec Borders, the Wood Elves have all but defeated their ancestral foe, the Beastmen. Under the command of the celebrated Skarloc, and guided by the counsel of Naith the Prophetess, the Asrai have all but scoured the region of Morghur's Beastherds. Only the Vampire Counts stand before the Wood Elves to contest dominance of the region, and even as the search for the crown nears its climax, the skies darken with unnatural clouds, and the forces of Waldikir marshal for the final battle.

In the Taalford Lowlands, the forces of the Dwarfs control the length of the Kemperbad-Talebheim Road . Yet, every warrior in the region has been afflicted by a series of terrifying nightmares, reducing many to quivering wrecks unable to take up arms against their foes. Though most remain ignorant of the source, the wisest practitioners of the arts of magic amongst the High Elves and the Empire have felt the touch of impossibly ancient minds, exerting influence on events in the Great Forest from across impossible gulfs of space and time. The forces of evil are most afflicted of all, hordes of vile Skaven fleeing into the imagined safety of their underground lairs before the glare of ancient eyes that haunt their every waking hour.

A time of great woe now comes to the Great Forest , for all know that the hour at which the crown shall be found is close at hand. Every army is making one last push, one last, supreme effort to crush its enemies, to dominate the forest and to locate the Nemesis Crown. As the skies grow dark and the forest is stirred by evil gales, so the Nemesis Crown awaits he with the will to crush his foes and claim his prize.

What Does That Mean? The following color codes are meant to provide you with a barometer of how well your faction is progressing towards its stated goal for the Nemesis Crown. These color codes are here to give you a sense of your progress to date.

Image of a green button. Green. Your faction is doing well, and if things continue, you are bound to secure your objectives while others stumble and clash in the depths of the forest.
Image of a yellow button. Yellow. The fight is far from over, and the outcome isn't certain, though victory is definitely within your grasp. To assure you achieve your faction's goal, you'll need to put forth greater effort.
Image of a red button. Red. Things are not looking well at all, and fate seems to have forsaken you. Despite your best efforts, nothing seems to be going according to plan. Victory may still be possible, as the winds of war are often fickle. In order to succeed, you'll need to re-double your efforts!

The Big Picture. It is important to remember that for this campaign, there will be no single winner. Each faction is working towards its goal, and battles will determine whether or not they are able to achieve it.
